What To Expect

Your guide will pick you up at your Bergen hotel or at your hotel in the airport vicinity. You are heading out from Bergen swiftly and moving towards the town of Voss and further on the scenic drive over the mountains via the beautiful fjords of the west coast. The road itself is as beautiful as the classic train ride, and even better as you can make stops upon request along the way. Don't miss out on those great opportunities for that magic shot when you finally came such a long way. Your guide is local and have all the information you could ever want. So feel free to ask your questions.

After Voss you take the serpentine road down Stalheimskleiva (1 april to 15 nov.) Stalheimskleiva is Europe's steepest road and descending own in the Nærøy Valley at incredible 18%. Here you will be able to walk down as this small piece of road present some views that is the "key" to the fjords. Quickly after you will be able to make a comfort stop in either Gudvangen or Flåm depending on your own wishes.

As you pass the Lærdalstunnellen (The Leardal tunnel) you are also able to see the great combination of engineering and architecture the Norwegians have become widely known for. The Lærdal tunnel is 25 kilometers long, and inside there are 3 enormous caves that are illuminated with colorful lights. Reminding the traveler about the folklore tales about Trolls and mysterious creatures from the Norse Gods.

From the Fjords, the tour continues up to the mountain passes over Hemsedal or Filefjell, depending on local weather. Your guide will always choose the road that are the most safe and who will make sure you reach your outbound flight. The mountains are something of themselves: Large areas that are for the most uninhabited by people. Small hunting cabins scattered over the landscape and snow piling up on the sides of the roads. In some places the snow stays all year, and upon request, you will be able to make yourselves a snowman - even in July.

As you decent down again towards the flatlands of the east, you are driving trough beautiful areas like the Valdres region where you pass villages like Bagn, Fagernes, Røn and the wonderful Ryfoss waterfall. As you arrive in Hønefoss you are ready for coming into Oslo City and its modern museums of art, skyscrapers and the "concrete jungle" of the modern world again.

At the hotel of your preference your guide will help you with luggage and to get settled in, so that you can enjoy Oslo City on your own the next day (s). This private tour is so diverse, yet time efficient - that it is a "must"  for the traveler who wants to stay of the beaten track.
